Texas Football: 3 2020 early enrollees who can make an instant impact
Wide receiver is another position group that saw adjustments made to it heading into spring camp. Malcolm Epps is switching from wide receiver back to his original position, tight end. And former five-star Cuero wide receiver recruit Jordan Whittington is switching back to his original position in spring ball from running back.
Given that Whittington will be starting over at wide receiver, and he didn’t get much playing time in general in 2019 due to a nagging sports hernia injury, other wideout signees in the 2020 recruiting class could make a play for a bigger role this year. And the wideout that could get the leg up in this regard is the four-star Fort Bend Austin product and Sugar Land, TX, native Troy Omeire.
The former Texas A&M commit ranks as the nation’s No. 239 2020 high school prospect and the No. 42 wide receiver. He also ranks as the No. 37 prospect out of the state of Texas. His recruiting ranking among his position group can be a bit deceiving since this was such a deep class of wide receivers during the 2020 cycle.
However, the 6-foot-3.5 and 205 pound Omeire has a solid blend of ball skills, route running ability, and reliable hands. Given his polished skill set, getting on campus early should definitely win over newly promoted wide receivers coach and former Kansas State Wildcats offensive coordinator Andre Coleman along with first-year offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich.
