Among the bigger surprises for this recruiting cycle for the top 10 ranked prospects in the nation was five-star Montverde Academy combo guard Cade Cunningham committing and signing with the Oklahoma State Cowboys. This was a huge get for head coach Mike Boynton and the Pokes, but it didn’t come easy for them.

Oklahoma State wound up hiring Cade’s brother, Cannen Cunningham, as an assistant on their staff prior to this vital commitment. Boynton and the Pokes are also building a solid 2020 recruiting class around Cade, including highly touted four-star point guard Rondel Walker. And they could be hot on the trail of four-star forward JT Thor.

However, the 2020 Texas basketball recruiting class was one of the 10 or so finalist schools when Cade made that round of cuts. Texas did have a shot to land Cunningham at one point. But it appeared that his final commitment decision boiled down to Oklahoma State and the Kentucky Wildcats.

The latest updated 247Sports Composite recruiting rankings for this class saw Cunningham rise to the top 2020 high school prospect in the nation.

Although, Cunningham didn’t have all that many offers since he narrowed down his top schools pretty fast. Other significant offers he had came from the North Carolina Tar Heels, Florida Gators, Virginia Cavaliers, and Duke Blue Devils.
