Getting effectively passed up by head coach Chris Beard and the Texas Tech Red Raiders in terms of relevancy in the state of Texas and the Big 12 is a hard pill to swallow for the Texas basketball program. But this is where a potential shift in the coaching staff could help get the Longhorns back to the top in this state.

There’s just no way with the vast amount of recruiting resources both in football and basketball that Texas has that they should be getting passed up by Texas Tech for any skilled prospect. That is what happened here with Texas losing out on the race to land four-star Duncanville small forward Micah Peavy.

The 6-foot-7 and 175 pound wing ranks as the nation’s No. 43 2020 high school prospect and the No. 10 small forward. He also ranks as the No. 2 prospect out of the state of Texas. This is the type of talent that the Longhorns need to latch onto each and every recruiting cycle.

Similar to how Steward’s recruiting timeline developed near the end before announcing his commitment to Duke, Peavy’s last official visit actually came with the Longhorns. He had a last official visit to a school not named Texas Tech on Sep. 20. Peavy would then announce his commitment to the Red Raiders on Nov. 4 and sign his National Letter of Intent during college basketball’s Early Signing Period on Nov. 13.
