2. Brock Cunningham, Forward

Both the biggest and most surprising breakthrough for the Texas basketball program this season came from an unlikely source, redshirt freshman forward Brock Cunningham. The Longhorns got less than 30 total points and no more than two points per game, rebounds, or assists, over the course of the entire 2019-20 regular season.

Cunningham only got to play in spots in 16 games during his redshirt freshman campaign, but he really started to show promising numbers at what seemed to be a great time. He helped spark that five-game winning streak that the Longhorns established in their final six games of the regular season.

Moreover, Cunningham had a number of win shares per 40 minutes above .100 in conference play along with an offensive rating better than 110 and a defensive rating lower than 97. His numbers vastly improved once Big 12 play began, because that was the first chance that Cunningham really got to shine for Texas this season.

This will be a year of what could’ve been for Cunningham since his season was cut short before he was able to shine in the spotlight. The push that Cunningham got down the stretch in Big 12 play should be more than enough for him to earn a much bigger role come the outset of the 2020-21 college hoops season.
