The 6-foot-5 and 340 pound Baylor Bears to-be redshirt sophomore Prince Pines put his name in the transfer portal after giving it a shot in Waco for two years. A likely deciding factor in Pines putting his name in the transfer portal entering the offseason was the departure of former Baylor head coach Matt Rhule to the NFL to assume the same role with the Carolina Panthers.

Pines first signed with Baylor in their 2018 recruiting class when Rhule was just starting his road to recovery with this program. That was Rhule’s first truly impressive recruiting class since Baylor was coming off just a one win season in 2017. And then things started to turnaround that following year.

As a former three-star recruit and Baton Rouge, LA, native Pines ranked as the nation’s No. 1,103 2018 high school prospect and the No. 46 offensive guard. He is a product of Tara High School and carried offers from 18 different schools. He wound up choosing Baylor over the Arkansas Razorbacks, Mississippi State Bulldogs, Houston Cougars, Mizzou Tigers, and TCU Horned Frogs.

Last season, Pines played in all but one game. And he started in four for the Baylor offensive line. Baylor did have one of the deeper offensive lines in the Big 12 last season, and one of the better passing games. Then junior quarterback Charlie Brewer was elusive in evading the pocket, but Pines did well when he got playing time last fall.

What should appeal to the Texas football program about pursuing Pines in the transfer portal is his experience playing with a deep Big 12 offensive line and still having three years of eligibility remaining.
