All in all, there is a lot of skill at the cornerback position in the transfer portal this offseason. A number of other corners that Texas football could pursue in the transfer portal this offseason includes NC State Wolfpack senior Nick McCloud and North Carolina Tar Heels senior Greg Ross. But McCloud is one of the more notable names among all the defensive backs in the transfer portal at the moment.

Last season, McCloud only played in one game. He wound up taking a medical redshirt due to injury. He’ll have one more year of eligibility left at his next landing spot, but he could be an NFL Draft prospect once his collegiate career is done. He didn’t get near as much attention as he deserved coming out of South Pointe High School in Rock Hill, SC. The most significant offers coming out of high school for McCloud came from the Appalachian State Mountaineers, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Kansas State Wildcats, UCLA Bruins, and West Virginia Mountaineers.

This 6-foot-1 and 190 pound former three-star recruit looks like a great fit with the Longhorns, considering what Ash will be asking out of his cornerbacks. He’ll be leaving them on an island often, so they do need to be proven and lengthy. McCloud can meet both of those criteria, and help bridge the gap for the next set of talented corners that will be ready to assume starting roles with Texas.

In his career thus far from his time with NC State, McCloud raked in 105 total tackles, three interceptions, 20 pass deflections, and one fumble recovery. McCloud has some of the best ball skills of any cornerback in the transfer portal. That’s what Texas could use more so than anything else heading into the 2020 season.
