Honorable Mentions

Any team that is playing in the Big 12, like the Texas basketball program, is going to run into a rough road when going through conference play. The Longhorns figured that out the hard way throughout much of conference play, but started to heat up down the stretch.

Here’s a look at some of the honorable mentions for the best NBA Draft prospects that Texas faced in the season that was.

Devon Dotson, Kansas

The Kansas Jayhawks have a number of NBA level talent on their roster under head coach Bill Self. Star point guard Devon Dotson is one of the notable names. He’s likely to be a second round pick whether he declares for the 2020 or the 2021 NBA Draft. The speed and floor vision that Dotson brings to the table should help his draft stock.

Udoka Azubuike, Kansas

If we were talking about the 1998 NBA Draft, then the Kansas big man Udoka Azubuike might be getting talk as a potential top 10 pick. But Azubuike has little to no ability to space the floor, and he is mostly considered a dinosaur in the modern style of play in the NBA. He was still a dominant force around the rim last season, though.

Jared Butler, Baylor

The 2018-19 All-Big 12 Freshman Team honoree and Baylor Bears rising star 6-foot-3 guard Jared Butler had a solid run in his second year playing under head coach Scott Drew. Butler saw his draft stock rise last season while shooting better than 38 percent from beyond the arc and averaging more than three assists per game.
