Curtis Brown. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Cornerback. 2011-2013. 3. player. 55

In the 2011 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers were just trying to rebuild their depth at cornerback. The Steelers attempt to draft a cornerback in every single year in the early-to-mid 2010’s. They definitely got mixed results from those attempts at drafting defensive backs too.

With their third round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Steelers picked up the former Longhorn All-Big 12 cornerback Curtis Brown. While Brown had a solid tenure on the Forty Acres and came to the next level with a good amount of accolades, he didn’t make a simple transition to the NFL. But injury history also played a role in derailing the brief pro career of Brown.

Brown only played in 34 games before the Steelers would release him prior to the start of the 2015 season. He would get a second chance with the New York Jets, but never played a single regular season game in that uniform. He was cut from the Jets roster on Sep. 1, 2015, and that was his last real chance in the NFL.

But in the 34 games that Brown did play in with the Steelers, he amassed just 49 combined tackles, one tackle for loss, one quarterback hit, one forced fumble, and one pass deflection. All that amounted to just an approximate value of two for the three years he played in the NFL.

Brown had ended up on injured reserve with the Steelers at different points in each of his three seasons with the team. The patience ran out with his injury history in early 2014, when the Steelers would give up on the Brown-experiment.
