Texas Football: 3 biggest Longhorn NFL Draft busts since 2010
The story and injury history of former Texas linebacker Sergio Kindle is even more unfortunate than that of Brown. While Brown did constantly run into knee injuries throughout the course of his NFL career, he didn’t have the variety of on and off-the-field problems that Kindle did in the early 2010’s.
Kindle was picked up by the Baltimore Ravens in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft, 43rd overall. The 6-foot-4 and 235 pound Kindle would only wind up playing in three games throughout his entire run in the NFL. All three games would come with the Ravens, and a lot of his production came on special teams. His only career tackle was a tackle for loss in the 2012 season.
The 2010 NFL Draft was actually a rather successful one for the Ravens considering their lack of picks. Defensive tackle Terrence Cody was the next name off the board for the Ravens in 2010, and he at least had a career approximate value of 14 (much better than Kindle). Fellow defensive tackle Arthur Jones and the tight end duo of Dennis Pitta and Ed Dickson were the highlights of this draft class, though, for the Ravens.
There was a point when Kindle was widely considered the most talented outside linebacker in the 2010 NFL Draft class. But up and down performances throughout the draft scouting process combined with concerns surrounding Kindle’s injury history caused him to fall down the second round. He never quite made the impact anticipated with the Ravens either.
Kindle wouldn’t even get to play in a game throughout his first 18 months in the NFL. From arrests, to U.S. Bank reportedly suing him, all the way to falling down a flight of stairs in Austin, Kindle just couldn’t find his footing after he was drafted into the NFL.
