For the Longhorns to continue to upgrade their offensive line, the 2021 recruiting cycle is going to be more important than just about any other in recent memory. There’s so much offensive line talent in-state in this cycle that Texas can’t let any key prospect slip through the cracks. This will be a true test for Herman and offensive line coach Herb Hand.

Two names of offensive linemen stick out above the rest among those top prospects who Texas should be going after at this point in time. The first is the five-star Duncanville 6-foot-5 and 265 pound offensive tackle Savion Byrd. As one of the most talented linemen in-state for Texas, hailing from the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, Byrd has to be a focal point for the coaching staff.

Byrd ranks as the nation’s No. 34 2021 high school prospect, No. 5 offensive tackle, and No. 4 prospect out of Texas. He holds more than 20 schools on his offer sheet as of April 5. The highlights of his offer sheet includes the LSU Tigers, SMU Mustangs, Alabama Crimson Tide, Georgia Bulldogs, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Oregon Ducks, and Oklahoma.

Both the 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions and the Rivals FutureCast picks Byrd to land with the Longhorns. Two of three expert Crystal Ball Predictions pick Texas and one is undecided. The Rivals FutureCast is currently giving a 100 percent chance that Byrd commits to Texas. But that might be a big far fetched.
