2. Miami Dolphins

Down the stretch last season, the Miami Dolphins actually found some traction after they were the NFL’s worst team at the outset of the regular season slate. The Dolphins wound up finishing up last season with a record of 5-11 under head coach Brian Flores. They were one of the unexpected teams that got hot, winning five of their last nine games and two in a row to round things out.

The Dolphins had the dead last defense in terms of points allowed per game last season, and ranked 30th in yards allowed per game. They also ranked 26th in total passing yards allowed, and at the bottom of the NFL in net yards per passing attempt (7.4) and passing touchdowns (39) last season.

Clearly the Dolphins need help at nearly every level of their defense. At the safety position in particular, they could use some help in terms of depth behind projected starters like Eric Rowe and Adrian Colbert. But if Jones were to land with the Dolphins, he has enough maturity and versatility in his game to even challenge Colbert for a starting role this year.

Right away, Jones would be likely competing with the likes of former Oklahoma safety Steven Parker for reps in a backup role. The Dolphins are still pretty bad in the secondary this offseason, despite getting better down the stretch last season and doing decently well in free agency. This is why the 2020 NFL Draft should matter so much to their defensive backfield.
