Texas Football: 2020 NFL Mock Draft for former Longhorns
Second name off the board: Collin Johnson, Wide Receiver
By far the former Longhorn in this draft class that has the highest ceiling and most appeal to NFL scouts is the towering 6-foot-6 and 220 pound wide receiver Collin Johnson. An underrated route runner with solid leaping ability, Johnson will have a pretty high floor in this draft class despite missing some games last season.
Running into all sorts of injury problems and limitations last fall, Johnson did witness his draft stock tumble a bit. Nagging lower-body injuries were a common storyline throughout Johnson’s college career on the Forty Acres unfortunately.
During his senior campaign, Johnson played in six games. He registered 38 catches for 559 yards and three touchdowns in those six games. Breaking down his total numbers into per game stats shows that he was still efficient as a senior. He would still average around 70 receiving yards per game and .36 touchdowns in the final three years of his college career.
When he started to run in front of NFL scouts and perform in limited tests in the NFL Combine, Johnson did see a brief spike in his draft stock. Once scouts got to see what he’s like at or near full health, they seemingly started to realize what made him such a promising prospect in the first place.
The pure size and gifted physical tools of Johnson will make some team take a flier out on him in the middle rounds of the draft. A team that needs a sizable possession receiver like the Broncos makes sense for him in the fourth round.
