2. Donovan Williams, Shooting Guard

This 6-foot-6 and 180 pound Houston, TX, native shooting guard and highly touted former four-star recruit Donovan Williams will be a real breakout player to watch across the entirety of the Big 12 next season. A spotty true freshman campaign for Williams did have some bright spots that should continue to shine through over the long haul.

The role that Williams held was rather limited last season. Although he did play in 26 games (starting in just one of them), he only averaged just over 11 minutes played. In those 26 games played, he averaged 3.3 points per game, 1.0 rebounds, 0.3 assists, 0.5 steals, and 0.2 blocks. He shot 36.8 percent from the field, 24.4 percent from beyond the arc, and 70.6 percent from the charity stripe.

The problem with Williams is that he had a very versatile offensive skill set that looked to allow him to run well in transition while being a capable corner three-point shooter. He does have the agility and athleticism to be a slasher to the point and develop into a decent secondary facilitator if he’s able to push his way into the starting five.

Moreover, the advanced numbers don’t help Williams’ case for a solid true freshman campaign out much either. He registered a -1.2 box plus/minus rating, just 0.2 total win shares, a 7.1 player efficiency rating, and 45.2 true shooting percentage.

A decent bright spot to his game from last season was his 2.3 defensive box plus/minus rating, though.
