A prospect that wind up being a huge win for Herman and offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich to get in early on is the three-star Hallettsville running back Jonathon Brooks. Back on Nov. 9, Texas became the first FBS program to send a scholarship offer Brooks’ way. There would be six other schools that would follow in their footsteps, but none to any avail.

The other six schools that offered Brooks included the Texas Tech Red Raiders, Colorado State Rams, Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns, Texas State Bobcats, UTSA Roadrunners, and FCS Houston Baptist. The latest offer that Brooks received prior to committing to Texas came from Colorado State out of the Mountain West, back on March 25.

This standout 6-foot and 185 pound Hallettsville, TX, native ranks as the nation’s No. 624 2021 high school prospect, No. 47 running back, and No. 86 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). He registered more than 1,500 total yards from scrimmage and 25 total touchdowns during his junior season at Hallettsville.

What the Longhorns are getting out of Brooks is a very underrated and agile runner that could be a good change of pace back for a few years with the offense. Brooks is a pretty well-rounded back too who is quick off the first cut, and can make an impact in the blocking and receiving games. Of his more than 1,500 total yards last season, 233 came as a receiver.
