Texas Football: 3 Longhorns you forgot played with Colt McCoy
Maybe the least forgotten player on this list, but one that doesn’t get enough credit in this day and age, is the former Texas skilled running back and four-star recruit Vondrell McGee. This 5-foot-10 and 205 pound Longview, TX, native signed with the Longhorns as part of the 2006 recruiting class which was pretty special for this program.
That 2006 recruiting class also included the likes of LaMarr Houston, Sergio Kindle, Jevan Snead, and Chykie Brown. The most potent rusher Texas signed in its 2006 recruiting class (which ranked as the sixth best in the nation) was McGee. He played in 35 different games over the course of three different seasons on the Forty Acres.
Although, McGee’s career would be cut short prior to the start of his senior season due to academic ineligibility. That ruling came down before the 2010 season started. It meant that McGee’s college career ended after just three solid years of production. His best season could be considered from any of his three with Texas since it provided mixed results.
In total during his three years playing for the Longhorns, McGee registered 1,059 total yards from scrimmage and 14 touchdowns. He averaged well over four yards per carry and all of his touchdowns came via the running game. The two best games of his career came in a win over Rice in 2007 and a win over the UTEP Miners in 2009.
