Texas Football: 3 juniors ready to breakout in 2020
2. DeMarvion Overshown, Linebacker
A number of position changes heading into what was supposed to be spring camp this offseason will still be important to watch this coming season. Among the more significant position changes this offseason so far includes former five-star recruit and former running back Jordan Whittington going back to his original position at wide receiver and former tight end/wide receiver Malcolm Epps switching to the defensive side of the ball.
And another important position change to watch is the former highly touted five-star recruit and Arp, TX, native DeMarvion Overshown going from safety to linebacker. It seemed like Orlando and Herman couldn’t really figure out where the best position for Overshown was at the outset of his college career. He’s switched position more than once already.
Moreover, if Overshown puts on some significant size this offseason, then he could be a real force to be reckoned with in the Texas linebacking corps. He already stands at 6-foot-4 and 215 pounds from last year’s numbers. That frame combined with his gifted athleticism should be a huge addition to this position group in the front seven.
Last season in limited playing time, Overshown registered 18.0 total tackles, 7.0 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, one interception, three pass deflections, and one forced fumble. He did all that in a pretty limited role in just five games played last season. If Overshown is facing a full season of playing time at linebacker this fall, watch out for what he can do as a junior.
