Charting a course of where the 2021 Texas football recruiting class goes from here involves prioritizing the next top four and five-star targets.

A blip in the road of late for the 2021 Texas football recruiting class late in the month of May and early in June could be quickly smoothed out. Head coach Tom Herman has the opportunity to land to key prospects for his 2021 recruiting class in the near future, with two highly touted defensive backs set to announce their commitment decision on June 16. Those two defensive back targets are four-star Kennedale safety JD Coffey III and four-star Kimball cornerback Ishmael Ibraheem.

If Herman lands those two commitments, Texas will re-establish themselves as the clear top ranked 2021 class in the Big 12. The Baylor Bears, Oklahoma Sooners, Iowa State Cyclones, etc. are actually starting to catch up with the Longhorns in the national class rankings.

According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, Texas’ 2021 recruiting class currently ranks at No. 16 in the nation and still remains in the top spot in the Big 12. Texas holds 11 commitments in the 2021 class, with the latest pledge coming from yet another ProKick Australia punter, Isaac Pearson.

The highest rated commit in the 2021 class is five-star Denton-Ryan athlete Ja’Tavion Sanders. As the lone five-star commit in the 2021 class, Sanders is anchoring down this top 20 ranked group in the national class rankings. But Texas needs to add more talent and depth in the near future to keep pace with the rest of the nation’s blue bloods in the national class rankings.

The good news is that Texas usually is able to turn their results around on the recruiting trail under Herman’s wing in no time. Here’s a look into the three most important four-star prospects for Texas’ 2021 class from here on out.
