About the best thing that the Longhorns could get in their 2021 class at the defensive end or edge rusher positions at this point in time is the four-star highly touted DeSoto strong-side defensive end Shemar Turner. This 6-foot-4 and 260 pound DeSoto, TX, native is one of a few four-star defensive ends that remains uncommitted that also holds a Longhorn offer, though.

In the 2021 class, the Longhorns currently hold commitments from four-star Memorial defensive end Jordon Thomas, four-star New Caney defensive end Derrick Harris Jr., and four-star Martin outside linebacker Morice Blackwell. Texas doesn’t necessarily need a whole lot more depth at defensive end, but they can bolster a position group that wasn’t super talented in the last few signing classes.

Landing a commitment from Turner would also give Ash and recently hired defensive line coach Coleman Hutzler yet another weapon coming out of the trenches. Texas signed a very talented edge rusher in the 2020 class, with four-star Highland Park product Prince Dorbah. They also landed commitments from highly touted D-Line targets like Vernon Broughton and Alfred Collins.

However, Turner ranks as the nation’s No. 118 2021 high school prospect, No. 10 strong-side defensive end, and No. 19 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). The Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 68 high school prospect, No. 6 at his position, and the No. 10 prospect out of Texas. He holds offers from nearly 40 schools and Texas will have to continually put in a lot of work to keep his interests on the Longhorns.
