3 most disappointing former Texas football QB’s that ever played in NFL
1. Vince Young
The NFL career of the former Texas legendary signal caller and 2005 Heisman finalist Vince Young was much more short lived than originally anticipated following the 2006 draft. Head coach Jeff Fisher and the Tennessee Titans used their third overall pick in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft to select VY.
Out of the gates, VY was really impressive for the Titans. He would be a Pro Bowl selection as a rookie in 2006. And he took the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year honors back to Nashville, TN, following the 2006 season. The cracks in VY’s career did start to show during the 2007 campaign, and he would eventually be benched in 2008.
But there were really only two solid seasons that VY would have in the NFL before things started to teeter out entering the 2010’s. VY would nearly win the AP Comeback Player of the Year award in 2009, leading the Titans to an 8-2-0 record down the stretch. He would also get his second Pro Bowl selection in the place of the injured Ben Roethlisberger in 2009.
It all came crashing down for VY starting in 2010. He was officially passed up for good in the Titans starting quarterback role by veteran Kerry Collins and then the likes of Jake Locker and Matt Hasselbeck. In his NFL career, VY registered just under 9,000 passing yards, 46 passing touchdowns, 51 interceptions, 1,459 rushing yards, and 12 rushing touchdowns. He posted an approximate value rating for his career of 36 and a 74.4 quarterback rating.
