The options for the Longhorns 2021 recruiting class in the trenches are really dwindling down at this point in time. Texas does have a few targets left that could be won over just with more added attention, but it would be wise for head coach Tom Herman and offensive line coach/co-offensive coordinator Herb Hand to seek out completely new targets too.

One good option for the Longhorns to look into around halfway across the country is three-star Leesville Road towering 6-foot-8 and 300 pound offensive tackle Andrew Canelas. This Raleigh, NC, native ranks as the nation’s No. 1,074 2021 high school prospect, No. 92 offensive tackle, and No. 51 prospect out of North Carolina (247Sports Composite).

There don’t seem to be any direct leanings for Canelas at this point in time. He does hold offers from a dozen schools as of the evening of July 17, though. The highlights of his offer sheet includes the Duke Blue Devils, North Carolina Tar Heels, Virginia Cavaliers, Penn State Nittany Lions, and NC State Wolfpack.

If there is any favorite right now to land the commitment of Canelas, it looks like it would be the East Carolina Pirates out of the American Athletic Conference. This is a solid prospect that falls very far under-the-radar that Texas could offer. Pushing aside the likes of ECU, Virginia, UNC, etc., might not be the most difficult feat of this cycle if they really wanted to go after someone like him.
