Texas Football: 3 biggest 2021 OL recruiting misses
For the first time in what seems like a while, the Crimson Tide started to rival the Longhorns on the recruiting trail. Most of the attention in terms of the Longhorns biggest recruiting rivals outside of the Big 12 remained on the likes of USC, LSU, Texas A&M, Georgia, etc. of late. But Alabama is always lurking around when it comes to top-tier success on the trail.
This time around, it was snagging the Brockermeyer twins from the Longhorns that really hurt. These highly coveted blue chip brothers that play along the offensive line were a Texas legacy of former Longhorn standout Blake Brockermeyer. Woes for the NFL Draft and overall player development/success in the win column really cost Texas here.
The biggest loss among the Brockermeyer brothers was five-star All Saints Episcopal offensive tackle Tommy Brockermeyer. He ranks as the nation’s No. 5 2021 high school prospect, and top overall offensive tackle and prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And losing out on the commitment of his brother and four-star All Saints Episcopal center James Brockermeyer really hurt too.
What the Longhorns lost in James was the nation’s No. 188 2021 high school prospect, top overall center, and No. 32 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). In one set of commitments, the Longhorns lost out on legacy brothers, two blue chip prospects, and the nation’s top ranked center and offensive tackle.
