Texas Football: 3 most crucial injuries through summer workouts
1. Keaontay Ingram, Running Back
The likely starter for the Longhorns in a loaded running back room for this fall is going to be the former four-star recruit and Carthage, TX, native Keaontay Ingram. This 6-foot and 220 pound rising junior is the most proven commodity returning for the Longhorns backfield for the 2020 season, and it could be his best yet in college.
But much like the other two names among the Longhorns skill position players on this list, it is concerning that Ingram has another lower-body injury that is nagging him ahead of the start of the 2020 season. Ingram pretty constantly has dealt with lower-body injuries in his two years on the Forty Acres so far.
The nature of most of the injury problems for Ingram so far with Texas was with his knees. But he’s dealing with soft tissue injury, more specifically with his hamstrings. That is also similar to the other two injured Longhorns on this list.
What is up with all of the hamstring injuries coming along for the Texas skill position players during summer workouts?
Ingram reportedly was trying to work through this hamstring since April. It is good that he gets some time to rest up before the start of the 2020 season. He’ll have some relief in the backfield too, since Texas brings back sophomore rusher Roschon Johnson and incoming elite five-star freshman Bijan Robinson, in this talented backfield mix.
What Ingram brings with him for the Longhorns is 1,973 total yards from scrimmage, 15 total touchdowns, and an average of 5.5 yards per carry.
