Texas Football: 3 players who will become stars in 2020
2. Brennan Eagles, Wide Receiver
More turnover exists at the top of the Longhorns receiving corps than just about any other position group on the offensive side of the ball this year. It is significant that Texas loses Duvernay and the towering 6-foot-6 talented wideout Collin Johnson since they ran out of eligibility. Those two are headed off to the NFL, after Duvernay was drafted in the third round and Johnson in the fifth.
Someone is going to have to step up in their place to standout and provide Ehlinger with another primary target in the passing game. Since he is the most productive and experienced returning wide receiver for the Longhorns this year, rising junior Brennan Eagles would be the first candidate that comes to mind to rise to the occasion.
Last season, Eagles didn’t really breakthrough as a star. But his production did elevate a good bit from his freshman campaign. He registered 32 catches for 522 yards and six touchdowns last year, which came out to an average of just over 16.0 yards per catch. He was actually one of the more explosive targets last year in the passing game.
Now that he’s out of the shadow of Duvernay and Johnson, this is the perfect opportunity for Eagles to become the go-to target in the passing game. He could become a real threat this year to get eight or 10 touchdown catches, and possibly over 1,000 receiving yards.
