Throughout his three years playing for the Texas football program so far, what teams has quarterback Sam Ehlinger fared best against?

Entering the 2020 season, the Texas football program pretty much solely has their Big 12 slate to prepare for. Compared to the planned non-conference slate, before the novel coronavirus pandemic upheaved it all, Texas had a pretty difficult group of opponents on tap for this fall. Now Texas is set to open up the 2020 season on Sep. 12 at home at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium against the UTEP Miners out of Conference-USA.

The two non-conferences games that were cancelled for the Longhorns were supposed to be against the defending National Champion LSU Tigers (on the road on Sep. 12) and the South Florida Bulls (at home on Sep. 5). The Big 12 opener is now set for Sep. 26 on the road in Lubbock against the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Texas will need to rely very heavily on their most proven leaders to make a true push to find more success in the Big 12 slate this fall. Top leaders like rising senior star quarterback Sam Ehlinger, redshirt junior offensive tackle Sam Cosmi, junior safety Caden Sterns, and junior linebacker Joe Ossai, are going to be seriously leaned on to shoulder the load for the Longhorns this season.

Ehlinger is going to be the most important player to the Longhorns success this fall. This could be the opportunity for him to finally get a Big 12 Championship under his belt, if nothing else. He’s come close in the past, but this is a good shot for him and Texas to finally get over the hump and move past the rival Oklahoma Sooners in the Big 12.

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, two of the Power Five conferences opted to at least push the 2020 season until the spring semester. The Big 12, ACC, and SEC, are the three remaining Power Five conferences still planning to play a fall football schedule. That could mean the ultimate goal this fall for the Longhorns is winning the Big 12.

Ehlinger has a good track record against quite a few of the Big 12 teams, and through the last two non-conference slates in general. Here’s a look back at three opponents that Ehlinger has consistently taken care of business against thus far in his Longhorns career.
