3) Former Texas football transfers to watch in Week 1: JP Urquidez, OL

The Texas State Bobcats were the benefactor of possibly the best and most impact-ready offensive linemen that hit the transfer portal under Tom Herman’s regime the last few offseasons. They managed to land former Texas offensive lineman, and the 6-foot-7 and 300 pound former four-star recruit, JP Urquidez out of the transfer portal this offseason.

It is a bit of a shame that the Longhorns couldn’t retain Urquidez beyond this offseason since they could’ve used the depth and experience in the trenches this fall. But after landing in San Marcos out of the transfer portal, Urquidez became one of the most high profile offensive linemen on the roster.

Urquidez should be vying for a starting role at either of the tackle positions this fall for the Bobcats. He and rising junior offensive tackle Alex Costilla are the most experienced at the position on this Texas State team. They will be trying to help this Texas State team that finished up with a record of 3-9 last season find more success in the win column this fall.

Texas State had a dismal rushing attack last year, averaging well under three yards per carry and racking up less than 80 rushing yards per game. They also averaged just over 0.6 rushing touchdowns per game last season.

Urquidez signed with the Longhorns 2016 recruiting class as a four-star offensive tackle that is a product of Copperas Cove High School in Texas. He ranked as the nation’s No. 236 2016 high school prospect, No. 22 offensive tackle, and No. 36 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite).
