2) Former Texas football transfers to watch in Week 1: Chris Naggar, K

SMU is set to take on Texas State in Week 1, which means all but one of the former Longhorns on this list are involved in the same game to open things up. The next player up on this list, though, is senior kicker/punter and former three-star recruit Chris Naggar. After officially getting edged out on the depth chart by kicker Cameron Dicker and punter Ryan Bujcevski, Naggar then put his name in the portal entering this offseason.

Naggar did get a bit of playing time last year after an injury to Bucjevski. He registered just shy of 1,000 total yards in the punting game. He averaged 39.3 yards per punt on 25 attempts over the course of five games during the 2019 campaign. So far in the matchup against Texas State, Naggar was perfect on all of his extra-point attempts, but didn’t have any field goal attempts yet at halftime.

Another Texas football transfer to watch in Week 1: Sam Saxton, QB

This is a two-part mention on the list since these two former Longhorns might not be all that impactful, at least compared to the other two transfers here. Former three-star quarterback recruit and preferred walk-on Sam Saxton was on the Longhorns roster for one year, but didn’t play at all.

Last season, Saxton stuck around until just after the conclusion of the regular season. He announced his transfer to join up with FCS Stephen F. Austin for the 2020 campaign and beyond. His 247Sports profile shows that he is immediately eligible this fall, but there’s no word as of yet if Saxton will be playing regularly for the Lumberjacks this season.

If he does play in Week 1, then Saxton and the Lumberjacks will be taking on UTEP, which is the Longhorns season opener next weekend.
