1) Most impactful Texas football injuries post-Week 1: Jordan Whittington

By far the most impactful injury that could hurt the Longhorns over the long haul this fall, at least that we know of now, came with redshirt freshman wide receiver Jordan Whittington. In the season opening win over UTEP, Whittington came up limping on a play near the end of the first half. And he didn’t return in the second half.

That injury that caused Whittington to come up limping near the end of the first half was apparently a torn meniscus. This looks to cause Whittington to miss at least three or four weeks to get surgery and recover from this “small” meniscus tear. That will cause him to miss the Big 12 opener against Texas Tech on the road on Sep. 26.

Having Whittington in the mix against Texas Tech would be big for the Longhorns, but just doesn’t look to be a reality. He’s a very explosive skill position weapon that Texas seldom had healthy and ready to go since his true freshman campaign began last season. He missed most of his true freshman campaign with a nagging sports hernia injury.

In the season opener against UTEP, Whittington registered two catches for 45 yards and one rushing attempt for 15 yards. He didn’t get in the endzone once, but he did show what he can do in limited touches. Whenever he is healthy and ready to make a full Longhorns debut in meaningful game action, Whittington will be a real threat for the skill positions.
