3) Positions of need in 2021 Texas football recruiting class: RB

The smallest position of need on the current roster on this list, that is dire for the coaching staff to hit on in the 2021 recruiting class still, is at the running back. Texas is set at running back in the current season, between true freshman Bijan Robinson, sophomore Roschon Johnson, and junior Keaontay Ingram.

But the future at the running back position relies on the strong pipeline that Herman and his coaching staff established during the 2020 recruiting cycle. Texas landed the top ranked running back prospect in the nation in their 2020 recruiting class, with the Salpointe Catholic product and Arizona native Robinson.

The two names to watch at running back for the rest of this cycle on the Forty Acres are the elite five-star Lakeview Centennial product Camar Wheaton and four-star Cy Fair product LJ Johnson. Wheaton appears to be trending toward Oklahoma at this moment, but could still be a realistic target for the Longhorns.

Meanwhile, the Longhorns are in a battle to win over the interest and potential commitment of Johnson from the in-state rival Texas A&M Aggies. Johnson is more than likely the target that the Longhorns could land a commitment from at this point in time instead of Wheaton. Texas won’t get both, so it’s important to prioritize how they recruit these two.
