1) Positions of need in 2021 Texas football recruiting class: LB

A lot of the positional needs in the 2021 Texas recruiting class are similar at this point of the cycle to how it looked in the 2020 class. Part of that is due to the Longhorns not adding a whole lot of depth (outside of the defensive end/edge rusher spot) for the last two cycles. But the good news is that the Longhorns have a solid target to help plug the depth need at the linebacker position in three-star Shadow Creek product Terrence Cooks.

This 6-foot-2 and 210 pound outside linebacker that is coming out of Pearland, TX, could be the final piece to the puzzle at this level of the defense for the remainder of this recruiting cycle. Texas did land a few linebacker commits in the 2020 signing class, but no headliners that standout that could make an early impact.

Cooks ranks as the nation’s No. 431 2021 high school prospect, No. 25 outside linebacker, and No. 64 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). He could combine with the likes of four-star edge rusher/weak-side defensive end Derrick Harris Jr. and four-star outside linebacker Morice Blackwell to round out this position group in the 2021 class.

Texas could get breakthrough seasons from the likes of former converted safety DeMarvion Overshown, junior former JUCO transfer Juwan Mitchell, and redshirt sophomore Ayodele Adeoye. But adding up the depth is key for the Longhorns at linebacker to ensure that Ash will have a strong front seven for the significant future.
