4) Predicting next commit in the 2022 Texas football recruiting class: Justin Medlock, ILB

If the Longhorns are able to continue the building momentum on landing talented prospects to build out the defensive side of the ball, then a good target to turn to next could be the unheralded three-star Manvel inside linebacker Justin Medlock. This 6-foot-1 and 210 pound Manvel, TX, native is getting a lot of attention from programs all around the country, though.

Medlock holds offers from nearly two dozen schools, as of the evening of Sep. 19. The highlighting schools on his offer sheet includes the Longhorns, Ohio State Buckeyes, Oregon Ducks, LSU Tigers, Arkansas Razorbacks, Baylor Bears, Florida State Seminoles, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Oklahoma, TCU Horned Frogs, Texas Tech Red Raiders, Tennessee Volunteers, and USC Trojans.

The program that seems to hold the edge to land the commitment of Medlock at this point in time is Ohio State. Head coach Ryan Day and the Buckeyes were after Medlock for a while now. But there should still be ample time for the Longhorns to use the geographic advantage to win over his interests in the near future.

Medlock should be considered the dark horse on this list of prospects to be the next 2022 commit.

He ranks as the nation’s No. 362 2022 high school prospect, No. 14 inside linebacker, and No. 48 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). The Top247 ranks him as the No. 16 inside linebacker and No. 47 prospect out of Texas. He would be a good steady hand for Texas to get early in the 2022 recruiting cycle at the linebacker position.
