Elite 5-Star Texas football CB target Domani Jackson trending to USC
The 2022 Texas football recruiting class is out to make itself a contender for the top slot in the national class rankings.
One of the most significant (if not the most important overall) prospects for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class to keep in their sights is the elite five-star Mater Dei cornerback Domani Jackson. As the top cornerback prospects for the 2022 recruiting cycle, Jackson is getting top prioritize from a ton of the top college football programs around the country.
Once again, the Longhorns are after a recruit out of Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, CA, that could be stuck between them and the USC Trojans. Texas head coach Tom Herman and USC head coach Clay Helton could duke this one out for quite a while. Jackson is a prospect worth going all out for these coaching staffs.
Texas is one of just shy of 40 schools that have sent scholarship offers to Jackson. The highlighting schools on his offer sheet includes the Michigan Wolverines, Arizona State Sun Devils, Clemson Tigers, Alabama Crimson Tide, Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, Georgia Bulldogs, LSU Tigers, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Ohio State Buckeyes, Oregon Ducks, Oklahoma Sooners, Tennessee Volunteers, UCLA Bruins, and Washington Huskies.
Jackson ranks as the nation’s No. 3 2022 high school prospect, and top overall cornerback and prospect out of California (247Sports Composite). Even the Top247 slots him as the nation’s No. 4 high school prospect for the 2022 cycle.
While Texas has been there the entire way in pursuit of a commitment from Jackson, their competitors are working tirelessly to win over his interests. The program that appears to be trending to get the edge in the race to land a commitment from Jackson at the moment is USC.
The 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions has each of their two experts with a pick in going with Jackson to commit to USC over the rest of the competition. The Rivals FutureCast also gives USC a complete edge from all of their analysts and publishers picking where he’ll commit to.
Texas does have the ability to boast the commitment of the elite five-star Southlake Carroll pro-style quarterback Quinn Ewers in their 2022 class. They are also starting to build out their class on the defensive side of the ball, after landing a commitment from four-star cornerback Jaylon Guilbeau earlier this month.
According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2022 Texas recruiting class ranks at No. 4 in the nation and holds the top spot over the likes of the Baylor Bears, Oklahoma State Cowboys, and the Sooners in the Big 12. Texas has more commits in their 2022 class than any other program from the Big 12.
Texas currently holds three commits in their 2022 class. Outside of the two aforementioned commits the Longhorns hold as of the evening of Sep. 29, they have four-star Lancaster wideout Phaizon Wilson that started out as the initial prospect in the mix.
