3) What’s missing for Texas football in 2020: Star pass rusher

Texas usually has at least one go-to pass rusher that they can rely on to be a spark plug for the front office year in and year out. But that pass rusher seems to be missing in the first two games of this regular season. There’s quite a few talented edge rushers and defensive ends that could step up for the Longhorns, but we have yet to see someone rise to the occasion yet.

Through two games this season, Texas only has two sacks, and not many more tackles for loss.  The lone two sacks for the Longhorns this season both came in the season opening win back on Sep. 12 over the UTEP Miners. And those two sacks went to freshman defensive lineman Alfred Collins and sophomore linebacker Marcus Tillman Jr.

Last season, one of the sack leaders for the Longhorns was stud linebacker Joseph Ossai. But Ossai doesn’t have a single sack in the first two games, and has just 10 total tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss. While Ossai did add two pass deflections so far, it would be nice to see him add a boost back to the pass rush.

Other names to watch that need to be big for the Texas pass rush includes senior defensive end Ta’Quon Graham, junior linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, and redshirt sophomore defensive end Moro Ojomo. In the last few seasons, Texas had the likes of defensive end Charles Omenihu, Ossai, and linebacker Malik Jefferson step up for the front seven. They have yet to see someone to the same early in the 2020 season.
