Texas Football: 3 bold predictions for Big 12 home opener vs. TCU
3) Bold predictions for Texas football vs. TCU: Joshua Moore goes for 150 yards and one touchdown
The start to the season for Moore was nothing short of spectacular. He is on pace (while it is still very early in the season) roughly to match Duvernay’s yards per game and surpass his number of receiving touchdowns from last season. Duvernay was one of the nation’s most reliable and productive wide receivers last year, so it won’t be easy for Moore to keep pace.
But through two games this season, Moore is minimizing the drops and has registered 11 catches for 200 yards and four touchdowns. That’s good for an average north of 18.0 yards per catch. Most of his receiving yards through two games came in the win over the UTEP Miners in the Longhorns season opener. But he had a whopping three receiving touchdowns in last week’s win over Texas Tech.
Moore has another big opportunity to continue his breakout against a TCU secondary that had its fair share of ups and downs last week. While TCU did only allow just over 210 passing yards and one touchdown from Iowa State quarterback Brock Purdy, they were mainly gashed on the ground. Iowa State only had 23 passing attempts on the day and completed 18 of them (completion percentage north of 78.0).
As long as Ehlinger properly manages turnovers in this game, the Longhorns should be fine to make some noise in the passing game. Moore’s speed and the depth that Texas has at other spots in the receiving corps should allow him to continue his rise to stardom this weekend. He has a real shot to get over the 100 yard mark again.
