3) Problematic Horned Frogs for Texas football: Taye Barber

If anyone is looking for who the next breakout wide receiver for TCU could be after the departure of former standout skill position threat Jalen Reagor made his way to the NFL, they should watch out for junior Taye Barber.

TCU has a very potent and versatile receiving corps in general. And the Longhorns should know that fact very well, having faced a lot of these wide receivers at different points in the last two seasons. But two that should stick out in particular as far as relevance to Texas should be Barber and the former Longhorns four-star Temple (TX) commit Quentin Johnston.

Barber and Johnston combined for more than 130 receiving yards and two touchdown catches in TCU’s season opening loss to Iowa State last weekend. Barber accounted for 82 of those receiving yards, and one touchdown catch, on five total receptions.

Last year against Texas, Barber registered five catches for 94 receiving yards (18.8 yards per catch). Barber is a real threat both in quarterback Max Duggan hitting him with a deep ball, or making defenders miss in the open field when he gets the ball in his hands at the line of scrimmage.

Iowa State already saw the threat that Barber can be at multiple levels of the field, as he was TCU’s leading receiver last week. Texas needs to be prepared for the threat he poses.
