There were less surprises than usual in the weekly release of the depth chart for the Texas football program heading into Week 6 of the 2020 college football season. On Oct. 10, Texas head coach Tom Herman will see his squad take on the unranked Oklahoma Sooners in the annual Red River Rivalry game.

Both Texas and Oklahoma have little momentum coming into this game. They carry a combined record of 3-3 (1-2 Big 12). The lone Big 12 win for either of these two teams came over the Texas Tech Red Raiders for the Longhorns in their conference opener on the road back on Sep. 26. Texas downed Texas Tech in a thrilling 15-point comeback win in overtime, by the final score of 63-56.

Texas is coming off a loss to the TCU Horned Frogs in their Big 12 home opener, in a heartbreaking result by the final score of 33-31. They were a double-digit point favorite heading into last weekend’s showdown with TCU.

The other win for Texas came over the UTEP Miners in a dominant 59-3 triumph back on Sep. 12 at home in their season opener.

But with Red River looming large for both Texas and Oklahoma, the attention shifts to seeing which team can bounce back in a big way. Texas needs a win to get back in the thick of the Big 12 Title race. And a third loss in a row for Oklahoma would put them in a new position of almost having no shot at contending from here on out for a conference title.

Texas just released the depth chart for what they will be running with on each side of the ball in Red River. There were a few shake ups in terms of roster positioning thanks to different injury updates. But it was interesting that junior running back Keaontay Ingram is still getting the start over sophomore Roschon Johnson, despite that late-game fumble against TCU.

Herman isn’t phased by that fumble from Ingram, and we’ll see if his patience in his junior back will pay off in the end.

Keaontay has registered 245 total yards from scrimmage on 38 touches, with no touchdowns. He does have 173 rushing yards on 32 carries (more than five yards per carry). Meanwhile, Roschon has has just over 150 total yards from scrimmage and three total touchdowns (two rushing and one receiving).

Behind both Keaontay and Roschon on the depth chart in the third string at the running back position is true freshman and former five-star recruit Bijan Robinson. Texas should continue to rely on the ground game to shoulder the load this coming weekend against Oklahoma, barring any more fumble problems.
