1) Texas football players who could breakout vs. OU: Bijan Robinson

The Longhorns drastically need a bounce back performance from someone in the running back room come next weekend’s showdown in Red River against Oklahoma. It will be key for Texas to control the clock and keep talented redshirt freshman quarterback and former five-star recruit Spencer Rattler off the field at crucial points as much as possible.

And while we should just naturally expect a bounce back game from the likes of Ingram and senior star quarterback Sam Ehlinger, a real x-factor this coming weekend could be true freshman running back and former five-star recruit Bijan Robinson. The nation’s top rated 2020 running back prospect is just waiting for his big breakthrough game.

Bijan contributed to the Longhorns offense in bits and pieces so far this season, but he has the third most snaps and touches in this running back room so far. He still largely remains behind Ingram and sophomore Roschon Johnson in the pecking order in the running back room.

Through three games, Robinson registered 70 total yards from scrimmage on 12 touches with no touchdowns. Of those 70 total yards, 50 are rushing on nine attempts (5.6 yards per carry). In the season opening win over UTEP, Bijan had more than 20 yards after contact. But he hasn’t even been on the field for more than a dozen snaps on rushing plays yet this season.

If Roschon struggles to get his yards per carry up to par still, or Ingram is still leading to poor plays for this offense, then we should see a healthier dose of Robinson in Red River. Texas has to find answers at the skill positions somewhere, and it could be with a freshman like Robinson.
