3) Bold predictions for Texas football vs. OU: Keaontay Ingram and Roschon Johnson combine for more than 200 total yards

One position group that really needs a breakthrough performance in Red River this weekend is the running backs. Texas didn’t necessarily get poor play out of the running backs in the first three games of the season, but nothing has really stood out in a positive sense either.

Sophomore running back and former converted dual-threat quarterback Roschon Johnson does have the bulk of the touchdowns in this position group, with three. After an efficient, but short lived, outing against TCU Johnson has registered 145 rushing yards (5.0 yards per carry) and three total touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Ingram leads the Longhorns in both rushing yards and total yards. He’s registered 245 total yards from scrimmage so far this season, 173 of which are rushing. Ingram doesn’t really have any big marks on his track record this year outside of that fumble at the end of the game against TCU.

Just in terms of a much-needed confidence boost, no one needs to have a bounce back game at the skill positions for the Longhorns quite as much as Ingram.

Given the efficiency Ingram has still displayed this year and the continued versatility of Johnson, it’s not out of the question that those two can go off against this inconsistent Oklahoma defense. Oklahoma showed to be prone to rushing attacks that can consistently push them around in the trenches. We’ll see how head coach Tom Herman and offensive line coach Herb Hand see their guys get pushes in the trenches this weekend against the squad under Oklahoma defensive coordinator Alex Grinch.
