Texas Football: 3 2021 prospects that could replace Billy Bowman Jr.
The 2021 Texas football recruiting class just lost a commitment from 4-Star Denton-Ryan athlete Billy Bowman Jr., and they have to find a way forward.
A rather poor weekend on and off the field for head coach Tom Herman and his staff was felt both on the recruiting trail and in the loss in the annual Red River Rivalry game in demoralizing fashion in four overtimes at the hands of the Oklahoma Sooners. The 2021 Texas football recruiting class also lost a commitment from one of their top prospects that was in the mix in the elite four-star Denton-Ryan athlete Billy Bowman Jr.
More bad news on the recruiting trail arrived in the form of underrated Longhorns three-star La Porte defensive tackle recruiting target Albert Regis giving his commitment to the Texas A&M Aggies over Texas and the Minnesota Golden Gophers, among others. Texas needs to find some source of good news somewhere heading into their bye week.
Maybe the answer to the Longhorns woes of late on and off the field could be through bouncing back in a big way on the recruiting trail. Texas does still have potential to round out their 2021 class in style, just a couple of months ahead of the Early Signing Period.
According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2021 Texas recruiting class ranks at No. 17 in the nation and remains further behind Oklahoma for the second spot in the Big 12. Texas currently has 17 commits in their 2021 class after Bowman Jr. re-opened his recruitment back on Oct. 8.
What Texas is losing after the Bowman Jr. decommitment is the nation’s No. 33 2021 high school prospect, No. 3 athlete, and No. 6 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). He was the highest rated commit (prior to this latest news of him re-opening his recruitment) outside of five-star Denton-Ryan athlete Ja’Tavion Sanders.
Where could the Longhorns turn from here to try and round out their 2021 class in the wake of the Bowman Jr. decommitment? Here’s a look into the three prospects that the Longhorns could turn to fill the void left by Bowman Jr. in their 2021 class.
