2) Unlikable Sooners for Texas basketball since 2000: Blake Griffin

One of the two best overall Oklahoma hoopers to come out of Norman in the past two decades, the current Detroit Pistons star big man Blake Griffin was also a thorn in the side of a lot of Big 12 teams during his two seasons playing for the Sooners. Griffin played for Oklahoma hoops from 2007-2009, earning a number of prestigious honors along the way.

What was annoying for the success that Griffin and the Sooners found during his time in Norman was the fact that Texas was also one of the teams from the Big 12 that was prominent too. Texas couldn’t quite get over the hump at the time, with the likes of Durant, Aldridge, and Thompson, commanding the frontcourt rotations around the time that Griffin was playing in Norman.

Griffin played in 68 games over the course of his two seasons with Oklahoma. He averaged 18.8 points per game, 11.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.0 blocks. And Griffin shot 61.8 percent from the field, 30.0 percent from beyond the arc, and a subpar 58.9 percent from the free-throw line. He also amassed the Wooden and Naismith Awards in 2009, two All-Big 12 First-Team selections, and one Big 12 Player of the Year award.

What did work in the Longhorns favor when Griffin was starring for the Sooners was his record in Red River. Griffin went a surprising 1-4 against Texas in his two seasons at Oklahoma. One of those losses was in the Big 12 Tournament, which is a nice add for the Longhorns in this rivalry.

Above all else, what was the worst about watching Griffin, and his brother Taylor, standing out in Norman was the high-flying dunks and constant chip on the shoulder of these two and the fan base at the time.
