Texas Football: 3 2021 prospects left that are must-gets for Tom Herman
1) Must gets for the 2021 Texas football recruiting class: LJ Johnson
If there’s any one prospect at this point in time that all eyes among Longhorns fans are falling on for Herman to get in their 2021 recruiting class, it’s likely the elite four-star Cy-Fair 5-foot-10 and 205 pound running back LJ Johnson. This game-changing rusher hailing out of Cypress, TX, is truly the definition of a must-get prospect for Texas.
Between Johnson and fellow uber-talented five-star Lakeview Centennial running back Camar Wheaton, the Longhorns had a tough decision to make in terms of who to pursue for this cycle. It’s not like it was a slam dunk for Herman and the Longhorns to win over the interests of either one of these two prospects, but they probably weren’t going to get both either way.
It seems like the commitment of Johnson is mostly going to come down to the Lone Star Showdown rivals. Herman and Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher are really battling it out to see who can win over Johnson.
But there’s also 38 other schools outside of Texas and Texas A&M that have offered Johnson. The other highlighting schools on his offer sheet includes the Sooners, LSU, Alabama, Auburn, Baylor, Duke Blue Devils, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Michigan Wolverines, Nebraska, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Ohio State Buckeyes, Oklahoma State, Penn State Nittany Lions, Stanford, Tennessee, TCU, and USC.
Moreover, Johnson ranks as the nation’s No. 42 2021 high school prospect, No. 4 running back, and No. 7 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 31 high school prospect, No. 3 running back, and No. 4 prospect out of Texas.
