Texas Football: 3 bold predictions for Sam Ehlinger out of bye week
3) Bold predictions for Texas football QB Sam Ehlinger: Helps to save Herman’s job
When his back is up against the wall, that is when the Longhorns head coach Herman tends to get the best results out of his team. Texas looked really good two seasons ago after a disappointing regular season-opening loss at the hands of the Maryland Terrapins. They responded by winning double-digit games in 2018, and even made it to the Big 12 Championship Game.
And last season, when Texas was on the brink of disaster under Herman heading into the regular season finale at home against the Texas Tech Red Raiders, the team pulled off a nice rally. Texas wound up handling Texas Tech at home in the 2019 regular season finale, and capped the campaign off by dominating the top-15 ranked Utah Utes in the Alamo Bowl by the final score of 38-10.
But Texas really needs to conger up some of that same magic that Herman and his squad found on those two occasions in the last two seasons. One more loss could be the end of the road for Herman on the Forty Acres. And Ehlinger might be the one that has to be the spark plug for this team to finally get them over the hump.
Limit the interceptions and get this offense going in a good rhythm in the middle of games when they actually have the opportunity to take control of the pace and score, and Ehlinger could take this team to a new level. Ehlinger has four picks on the season, and his passer efficiency rating and completion percentage steadily decreased in the last two games. He needs to stop that trend starting this weekend against Baylor.
