3) Takeaways from Texas football’s win over Baylor: Feed Bijan Robinson more

One thing has become very clear in the last couple of weeks for the Longhorns. Junior running back Keaontay Ingram is not the answer to push this ground game forward for the rest of the season. Ingram ran into a whole lot of trouble coming up with consistent and efficient carries. He’s had some fumbling issues, and just can’t get away from opposing tacklers around the line of scrimmage.

In this game, Ingram registered 57 rushing yards on 16 carries (good for just 3.6 yards per carry), and no touchdowns. Ingram did add 10 receiving yards on one catch too. But the fact of the matter is that Ingram just hasn’t been a real game-changer for the Longhorns ground game at any point this season.

Considering that the Longhorns have two other capable rushers in sophomore Roschon Johnson and true freshman former five-star recruit Bijan Robinson, the workload for Ingram shouldn’t be so high. Robinson was more efficient for the Texas offense in this game. He registered 55 rushing yards on 12 carries (4.6 yards per carry), with no rushing touchdowns.

On the season to date, Robinson has registered north of 175 total yards from scrimmage and more than 4.5 yards per carry. He also doesn’t have any fumbles or penalties called against him so far this season. Herman and offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich should be giving a bigger workload to Robinson at this point over Ingram.
