Texas Football: Corso thinks this is the ‘make or break’ game for season
ESPN’s Lee Corso thinks that this is the game that could “make or break” Texas football and the tenure of head coach Tom Herman.
A really critical matchup for fourth-year Texas football head coach Tom Herman to get right is on tap this afternoon out of the bye week. Texas is set to take on head coach Dave Aranda and the Baylor Bears at home on Oct. 24 at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, with kick off set for 2:30 p.m. CT.
Texas comes into this game with a record of 2-2 (1-2 Big 12), coming off their rough four overtime loss at the hands of head coach Lincoln Riley and the Oklahoma Sooners back on Oct. 10, by the final score of 53-45. The other loss on the season to date for the Longhorns came against the TCU Horned Frogs back on Oct. 3.
The Longhorns are seeking out their first win of the month of October against Baylor. The only other chance they’ll have to get their second win in Big 12 play this month would come on Oct. 31 on the road in Stillwater against the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
Meanwhile, Baylor comes into this game with a record of 1-1 (1-1 Big 12). They had their originally scheduled Oct. 17 matchup at home against Oklahoma State pushed back to Dec. 12 in the wake of a number of novel coronavirus cases for their players and staffers. The last game that Baylor played in resulted in an overtime loss in their Big 12 road opener back on Oct. 3 against the West Virginia Mountaineers.
Pretty much all the pressure is falling on Herman and the Longhorns in this game. And ESPN College GameDay personality Lee Corso gave his thoughts on the Longhorns and how they need to win this game over Baylor this weekend. He essentially stated that this is a ‘make or break’ game for Herman and the Longhorns.
While Corso definitely had some interesting takes on the College GameDay set recently, his is pretty spot on with this one. Here’s more on what Corso had to say on the matter (monologue courtesy of 247Sports).
"“This is a make or break part of the season. Texas needs this one,” legendary coach Lee Corso said of the Longhorns. “The pressure’s on Coach Herman because he’s 1-4 against Oklahoma and has not won a Big 12 title. Texas needs a win, any win, they need it and they need it bad.”"
Texas is a double-digit point favorite ahead of kick off against Baylor. They need this one to get back on track in the Big 12 and to get a lot of the pressure off of Herman’s shoulders. Texas came under plenty of scrutiny during the bye week.
This is their chance to get back on the right track and start making a push to get a spot in the Big 12 Championship Game. Things definitely won’t get any easier from here either as the Longhorns still have the likes of Oklahoma State, Kansas State, and Iowa State on the schedule for the remainder of the season.
