3) OK State QB’s that torched Texas football: Taylor Cornelius

Definitely the most surprising name on this list, that isn’t the likes of the better Oklahoma State quarterbacks in recent memory like Zac Robinson, Mason Rudolph, Sanders, etc. is the towering former walk-on Taylor Cornelius. As just a one-year starting quarterback for the Pokes back during the 2018 season, Cornelius put together quite the performance against the Longhorns.

In a complete season of ups and downs for Oklahoma State back in 2018, Cornelius really did play his best against the best competition. Oklahoma State lost to teams like Texas Tech, TCU, and Baylor in 2018 that they likely should’ve defeated. But they knocked off the likes of a very good West Virginia Mountaineers team led by Will Grier, along with the Longhorns. And they nearly pulled off a massive upset in Bedlam against Oklahoma.

But Cornelius might’ve saved his absolute best for that crazy 38-35 upset of No. 6 ranked Texas at the time. He registered 23 completions on 34 passing attempts, good for just over 320 passing yards, three passing scores, and no interceptions. Cornelius also added just over 20 rushing yards, and two rushing touchdowns on the day.

The was the best passer efficiency rating that Cornelius posted during the 2018 campaign in any game that wasn’t against the Kansas Jayhawks or FCS Missouri State Bears came against the Longhorns. And the best offensive and passing grades that Cornelius had in 2018 against anyone that wasn’t those two teams came against Texas.
