2) OK State QB’s that torched Texas football: Clint Chelf

One of the more proficient runs for the Longhorns throughout the 2010’s came under the direction of former head coach (now back with the North Carolina Tar Heels) Mack Brown, during the 2013 season. Texas looked like they were set to contend for a Big 12 Championship in 2013, until they ran into the likes of Oklahoma State and Baylor.

Texas had a really pivotal showdown late in the 2013 Big 12 schedule, in hosting Gundy and the Pokes at home on the Forty Acres. The Longhorns came in with a No. 24 ranking and with a lot of momentum on their side. But former unheralded three-star recruit and Oklahoma State quarterback Clint Chelf slowed that momentum for Texas in quick fashion.

In a season where Chelf only registered 2,169 passing yards, 17 passing touchdowns, and eight interceptions, a lot of his production came in this Pokes win over the Longhorns. Chelf had really just one mistake in a game against Texas where he had a passer efficiency rating around 169.0 and a completion percentage north of 72.

Chelf registered 197 passing yards, two passing scores, one interception, just shy of 100 rushing yards, and two rushing touchdowns, in an eventual dominant 38-13 win for the Pokes.

What is important to note about Chelf is that he was also one of the first quarterbacks that played in the scheme under then Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich. There could be some lessons to learn for the Longhorns for how their first-year OC Yurcich was able to scheme up Chelf to beat Texas in 2013.
