Texas football targeting 4-Star local QB Cade Klubnik to replace Ewers
There appears to be a new target in line for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class after losing the commitment of 5-Star QB Quinn Ewers.
The search is now officially on for fourth-year head coach Tom Herman to find a replacement for the now decommitted elite five-star Southlake Carroll pro-style quarterback Quinn Ewers in the 2022 Texas football recruiting class. And a key offer (that was likely to come soon after the news of the Ewers decommit) that was sent out this week by Herman for his 2022 class went to a local product and four-star Westlake pro-style quarterback Cade Klubnik.
About the worst news that the Longhorns received on the recruiting trail in a long time occurred late in the week when Ewers decommitted from their 2022 class on Oct. 28. Not only did the nation’s top 2022 quarterback prospect (and top overall high school prospect in the nation in the Top247) re-open his recruitment, but Texas also lost another one of their commits in that class.
Just after the decommitment from Ewers occurred on the night of Oct. 28, Herman and the Longhorns got the news that four-star Lancaster wide receiver Phaizon Wilson had also re-opened his recruitment. That leaves just four-star Memorial cornerback Jaylon Guilbeau in the Longhorns 2022 class following a tough week on the trail.
The scholarship offer from Texas to the 6-foot-2.5 and 180 pound Austin, TX, product arrived on the evening of Oct. 31. Klubnik announced that he received this Texas offer on his Twitter timeline this weekend.
What Texas is looking to get here is the nation’s No. 258 2022 high school prospect, No. 10 pro-style quarterback, and No. 36 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 220 high school prospect, No. 7 pro-style quarterback, and No. 30 prospect out of Texas.
Klubnik now holds offers from just over two dozen schools. The other highlighting schools on his offer sheet includes the Auburn Tigers, Baylor Bears, Georgia Bulldogs, LSU Tigers, Miami Hurricanes, Nebraska Cornhuskers, North Carolina Tar Heels, SMU Mustangs, TCU Horned Frogs, Virginia Tech Hokies, and Washington Huskies.
Now that Texas is down to just one commit in their 2022 class, the search will be on to find replacements for both Wilson and Ewers. Starting with the quarterback position could be key for Herman and the Longhorns after losing Ewers.
