3) Problematic Mountaineers for Texas football: Leddie Brown

Heading into the weekend, the Longhorns will have to watch out for a West Virginia ground game that is getting sneaky good at this point of the season. And the running back that spearheads it all for this phase of the Mountaineers offense is the 5-foot-11 and 210 pound junior Leddie Brown. Already nearly doubling his total amount of rushing yards from last season through six games played this year, Brown is on a tremendous pace.

Brown registered 694 rushing yards on a whopping 126 attempts (5.5 yards per carry), eight rushing touchdowns, to go along with 166 receiving yards and two touchdown catches (7.2 yards per catch). And while a lot of the production that Brown has this season came in the season opening win over FCS Eastern Kentucky, he’s done well since the start of Big 12 play.

There’s only one game in Big 12 play this season where Brown registered less than 90 rushing yards. And there’s no single game this season where he has less than 100 total yards from scrimmage. His best individual outing on the season came in their win over the lowly Kansas Jayhawks, where he posted 195 rushing yards (10.8 yards per carry), one rushing touchdown, 36 receiving yards, and one touchdown catch.

Brown also did a pretty good job so far this season in terms of protecting from turnovers, only coughing up the ball once, and he’s only been penalized once. The yards after contact are also really impressive (364, and 2.89 yards after contract per attempt). He’s going to be a load for the Texas defense just one week after they did well against Oklahoma State star running back Chuba Hubbard.
