Texas Football: 3 most disappointing players halfway through 2020
3) Disappointing Texas football players halfway through 2020: Keaontay Ingram
The roller coaster ride of a 2020 regular season so far for the Longhorns was really personified just with the performance out of the running backs. Texas started off the season by letting junior running back Keaontay Ingram shoulder the load, and that hasn’t worked out too well so far. The yards per carry and overall per game rushing stats for Ingram aren’t all too bad.
But there’s nothing that really stands out in a positive sense about what Ingram has done for the Longhorns this fall. In bits and pieces of six games played so far this season, Ingram registered 353 total yards from scrimmage on 64 touches, with two total touchdowns. Of that, 250 are rushing yards (4.7 yards per carry) and one rushing score. The other is 103 receiving yards on 11 catches (9.4 yards per catch), with one touchdown catch.
Ingram had a rough stretch with a couple of bad fumbles and penalties called against him in the losses to the Oklahoma Sooners and TCU Horned Frogs back in early October. He’s also struggling at times when called in pass and/or run blocking roles.
And while this is completely out of his control, the fact that Ingram continues to have spotty injury problems doesn’t help with the fact that this season is really disappointing for him from the start. He missed the West Virginia game with a lower-body injury that also kept him out for most of the eventual win over Oklahoma State.
It’s unclear if Ingram will return for the Longhorns to face the Jayhawks, but they should be in a good enough position between letting freshman Bijan Robinson and sophomore Roschon Johnson take on most of the workload.
