Texas Football: 4 biggest 2021 in-state prospects that got away from Herman
4) In-state ’21 Texas football recruiting misses
The aforementioned loss of the commitment of the 5-foot-10 and 175 pound uber-talented athlete/wide receiver product hailing out of Denton, TX, Bowman Jr. was really detrimental for Herman and the Longhorns. Bowman Jr. was one of the staple commits in the Longhorns 2021 class before he announced his decommitment back on Oct. 7.
Prior to re-opening his recruitment last month, Bowman Jr. was by a good margin the second-highest rated commit in the 2021 class. There were also a plethora of concerns that emerged in the Longhorns camp when he decommitted since there was a thought that he could bring his teammate and the five-star athlete Sanders with him.
However, Sanders has since reaffirmed his commitment to Texas, at least for the time being.
What Texas lost when Bowman Jr. decommitted was the nation’s No. 33 2021 high school prospect, No. 3 athlete, and No. 6 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 35 high school prospect, No. 3 athlete, and No. 5 prospect out of Texas.
That was a monumental loss for the Longhorns, likely mostly because of coaching instability and where they wanted Bowman Jr. to play at once he arrived on the Forty Acres.
Bowman Jr. ultimately wound up choosing to take his talents to join head coach Lincoln Riley and the rival Sooners back on Nov. 1. He chose to take his talents to Oklahoma over offers from Texas and 30 other schools. The other highlighting schools on his offer sheet included the Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn Tigers, Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, Georgia Bulldogs, LSU Tigers, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Oregon Ducks, and USC Trojans.
