The 2022 Texas football recruiting class appears to be losing its grasp on 4-Star safety target Isaac Thompson before his decision date of Dec. 4.

A once big time target of the 2022 Texas football recruiting class, four-star St. Louis University 6-foot-1 and 190 pound safety Isaac Thompson, is starting to narrow down his commitment decision it appears. This highly touted product hailing out of St. Louis, MO, now looks to have a decision date set for just a couple of weeks before the start of the Early Signing Period’s conclusion (at least for the previous cycle), on Dec. 4.

And although the Longhorns don’t appear to have the traction in pursuit of Thompson that they once did earlier in this recruiting cycle, they do still reportedly remain among his finalist schools. Thompson appears to have narrowed down his commitment decision to just four schools at this point in time. Those other three schools outside of Texas includes the Michigan Wolverines, Florida Gators, and Mizzou Tigers.

Thompson also holds offers from just shy of 29 other schools as of the afternoon of Nov. 16. The other highlighting schools on his offer sheet includes the Auburn Tigers, Baylor Bears, Florida State Seminoles, Iowa Hawkeyes, Kansas State Wildcats, LSU Tigers, Miami Hurricanes, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Penn State Nittany Lions, USC Trojans, and West Virginia Mountaineers.

The latest three schools to send offers to Thompson includes the Kentucky Wildcats, Florida State, and West Virginia. But none appear to have made the cut for the commitment of Thompson at this point.

Moreover, Thompson ranks as the nation’s No. 146 2021 high school prospect, No. 16 safety, and No. 4 prospect out of Missouri (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 133 high school prospect, No. 19 safety, and No. 3 prospect out of Missouri.

As of Nov. 16, the fortunes for the likes of Florida, Texas, and Mizzou don’t look so good in the pursuit of landing Thompson’s commitment. The 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions have all their expert picks in for head coach Jim Harbaugh and Michigan. The Rivals FutureCast also has all of their publishers and analysts picking Thompson to commit to Michigan over the rest of the field.

It would be really nice to see the Longhorns catch a break on the trail, especially for their 2022 recruiting class. Cornerbacks coach Jay Valai is hot on the trail of Thompson, but that might not pay off in the end.
